Second Life, for me, is an extension of my first life. I am every bit as eccentric, witty, smart, obnoxious, juvenile, sardonic, and so on, as I portray myself in-world. Sure, I don't own a club in the physical world (or any land, for that matter) and I'm not actually a zombie clown who explodes on a whim, but all of these things do represent a part of who I am.
